There was a party in the streets of Stockport on Sunday as County fans celebrated their promotion heroes.

After a 14-year absence, County are heading back to League One after a brilliant season for Dave Challinor’s side, who were crowned as League Two champions ahead of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham. It’s County’s third league title in the last five years, but the club’s first in the Football League since 1967.

Players and staff attended a civic reception at the town hall before riding an open-top bus through the town to Edgeley Park - where another celebration event was held. Fans spoke to us about how the promotion was another sign that the town is really on the up.

“We’re always touching the promotion, but now 14 years later we’ve got the right backing, we’ve got the right team, we’ve certainly got the right manager, which is unbelievable,” said retired engineer Phillip Wright, 73. “I think it’ll put Stockport more on the map.”
