The speculation and anticipation over the first taste of a project from two Mancunian music icons is over. Liam Gallagher and John Squire have released their first single ‘Just Another Rainbow’ just days into 2024.

The track encompasses what we’ve come to know both musicians as. Gallagher’s iconic voice which has been on the airwaves for decades through Oasis and other projects, and the recognisable sound of Stone Roses guitarist Squire combine to make a song that is genuinely ‘made in Manchester’.

‘Just Another Rainbow’ is tipped in a psychedelic feel, with the influence of 1990’s on the two musicians abundantly clear. The track was officially announced to have been recorded last month, but this came after months of rumour and speculation.

Before its release, Gallagher made a bold claim about the upcoming album which is set to be released later in the year. The former Oasis man said that it will be the best record since Revolver, which was released by The Beatles in 1966.

As with many much anticipated song releases, social media has been full of people giving their thoughts. It’s been a mixed bag so far, but it seems like more people love the track than hate it.

Some of those who have ‘Just Another Rainbow’ the thumbs up were very complimentary. One wrote: “I'm already obsessed, I know I'll be for the rest of the year, it's amazing,” with another adding: “Properly psychedelic. Voice sounding strong as an ox. Squire's guitar on point. Knocked it out of the park.”

One social media user was particularly not a fan, writing: “Thank you, Instagram, for silencing BBC Sounds on my phone as it was inflicting the latest death rattle released by Liam Gallagher and that bloke from that awful other band on everyone in the vicinity. Ten more seconds of that and my eardrums would have atrophied.”

Another added that they felt Gallagher was too dominant, writing: Was enjoying #JustAnotherRainbow until he actually started singing the colours of the rainbow. The track is dominated more by Liams vocal than any Squire contribution, the song doesn’t need a long solo at the end. Not impressed #LiamGallagher.”
